Update on Incident at Lázaro Cárdenas Plant

Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, August 20, 2025.

The company confirmed that on Monday, August 18 at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time, an explosion occurred at ArcelorMittal’s facility in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. The incident originated in the direct reduction area responsible for producing direct reduced iron (DRI).

No injuries were sustained, and emergency protocols were activated immediately to ensure the safety of all personnel. The company is currently investigating the cause and assessing the impact on equipment necessary for DRI production. ArcelorMittal Mexico is immediately working on contingencies to ensure supply and meet the needs of our customers.
