ArcelorMittal Mexico announces progress in the recovery of operations in Lázaro Cárdenas
Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, September 2, 2025.
ArcelorMittal Mexico announces the partial restart of its operations. The incident reported on August 18th had impacted the DRI production capabilities in the HYL plants, this has now been partially resolved and two out four HYL reactors are back running at full capacity.
As previously reported, there were no injuries, our safety protocols were immediately activated and proper due diligences process have been completed to identify the root cause and prevent future similar incidents.
The partial restart marks a decisive step towards the full normalization of our operations. In line with our technical recovery plan, the plant is expected to resume full operations by the end of November 2025.
To ensure continuity of supply and mitigate any potential impact on our value chain, we have implemented a set of strategic measures, including:
• Purchasing HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) from our sister plant in Texas.
• Maximizing the use of scrap in our production processes.
• Importing slabs from ArcelorMittal Brazil to support uninterrupted hot rolled coil production.
These initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy designed to minimize any impact on our customers while maintaining the confidence of our investors and safeguarding the strength of our operations in Mexico, this also is also a good example of how ArcelorMittal through its internal synergies can mitigate in an expedited manner any operational interruptions as the one we just went through.
ArcelorMittal Mexico reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the safety of its employees, operational stability, and the responsible continuity of its value chain.
